Dogs and kids

Today was an ordinary day. Dana had her schedule, I had my headache...all was normal. Then towards the end of the day, Dana was being cute with the dog. In fact, she was hugging the dog. And when I asked her to do it so David could take a picture, she did it but the picture didn't take. So I asked again. And that's when Kona turned on her. It didn't even dawn on me that she was cowering over her food. The dog barked like crazy, like she does when someone is trying to get onto our property who doesn't belong here. Unfortunately, Dana ended up with a puncture wound on her forehead and a cut on her eyelid. Her life past before my eyes. She cried hysterically. And while she did, she kept saying "doggy." Was she saying it because the dog betrayed her? Was she saying it because she didn't want the dog to be mad at her? We'll never know. What we do know is that as soon as she stopped crying and David brought the dog back inside, Dana just wanted to pet her and get licked. Kona seemed to want to apologize. I just wanted to beat the shit out of her.

I feel so guilty that I put my child in harms way. Just for a picture. This is why everyone should remember that dogs are animals, not people. They protect their food and their territory.

Before Dana went to bed, both she and the dog said "goodnight" to each other. I still want to beat the shit out of the dog. David doesn't know what to feel or even what to say. I think he doesn't want to make me feel bad or something. Maybe he's thinking I might freak out. Is Wellbutrin strong enough for this?

I hope Dana sleeps well tonight and doesn't look too horrible in the morning. I'm expecting a black eye and a bruise on her forehead. If I expect the worst, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

New words today: Salsa, sauce, and turkey
